New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors completes trail project

Santa Fe, N.M., July 3- A group from New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors (NMVFO) successfully cleared downed trees and debris from three trails in the San Pedro Parks

Wilderness of the Cuba Ranger District. Twelve volunteers, supported by five members of the Jemez Chapter of Back Country Horsemen, successfully removed 202 downed trees along 3-3 miles of the Palomas, Perchas and Penas Negras trails. Christy Osmon, NMVFO team leader on this project, noted “I’m really proud that our volunteer team was able to clear all of the trails from Palomas Trailhead to the North end of the Penas Negras trail over a four-day period”. John Hennard, Recreation Management Director on the Cuba Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest, added “We’re grateful for all the hard work NMVFO and BCH-Jemez chapter did on these trails–we couldn’t keep the trails cleared without this additional support”.

NMVFO is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to maintain, improve, and steward New Mexico’s public lands. NMVFO works across the state to construct and improve trails and other outdoor facilities for public use, as well as to enhance wildlife habitat and protect land and water resources.
